We are living right here in the belly of the beast and there probably isn’t a topic more discussed right now than this one, particularly with daily speculation about the likelihood and size of El Nino, the storm front that could provide some drought relief in the winter of 2015-16. Things are so dry here that it would have to rain non-stop for weeks and weeks to hydrate the extremely-dry soil. Only then will some of the water percolate back into the aquifer.
Even when the waters do come, it is sobering to realize that some things will never be the same. The drought has made its mark on California society and geology. California will never be the same again.
